GEAR UP U
Spatial visual thinking is three-dimensional perception that involves analysis, pattern recognition, & problem solving; skills which form the foundation for many disciplines & play a direct role in determining a student's career choice. This introduction to spatial thinking sets students on the right trajectory for a STEM career, learning through abstract conceptual thought. Researchers continue to highlight the connection between early spatial skills and creativity, along with the consensus that spatial ability is a must for those hoping to excel in the STEM fields. VISUALIZING STEM 3D computer aided design allows students to see what an object looks like as it moves through space, from how parts move within a machine to the twisting of DNA molecules. This class is open ended, creative and challenging, offering a counterbalance to the quantitative only approach to teaching. Our current “words and numbers” system has failed to develop the spatially gifted student to any meaningful extent. After years of research, the following curriculum, in particular the concept of Conceptual Design Blending, is an example of what actually works in today's classroom. |
